Shockingly 80% of people said they never clean it. As the kitchen is the place that we prepare and eat our food, we don't like to think that it may be dirty HOWEVER a new study has revealed the dirtiest appliance in the kitchen and trust me it’s one that gets a lot of use in our house.
The culprit? The ever-so-trusty Microwave!
The research, carried out by cookware store Oliver’s Kitchen, found eight out of 10 people admitted to NEVER cleaning their microwaves – which is particularly gross considering how often food likes to jump out the bowl or when your soup spits boiling lava everywhere when it’s heating up.
I must add, it's actually incredibly easy to give your microwave a quick clean before you get the professionals in - simply cut a lemon in half and squeeze both pieces into roughly 120ml of water in a microwaveable bowl, then add the pieces to the bowl.
Afterwards, microwave for three minutes on high power and leave to stand for five minutes. When you open the door, wipe the whole microwave clean. It's that simple!
However, it’s not just our microwaves that are lacking a little TLC in the kitchen. According to the study, 69% of respondents said they did not clean their oven regularly either. (That's where we come in with our cape to save the day)
Uncovering more dirty habits, the research found that 48% admitted to not cleaning their fridge. What’s more, 21% confessed to not washing their hands before preparing food and 62% said they did not wash or change their kitchen dishcloth regularly – which can become a hotspot for all kinds of nasty bacteria.
